Progress on My bit.ly App

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

I’ve put some work into my bit.ly application (I’m calling it Bit Pile for now), and I’ve got some screenshots from it to show. It still needs some work, but most of the functionality is there. I’d like to add mass import and export at some point, but those functions haven’t made their way in yet. Here’s the first shot (I’ll get to the others after the break).

A Little bit.ly App

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

I’ve been playing around with the APIs for bit.ly a bit, and started mocking up a little application. Here’s a quick screenshot, I’ll outline my ideas afterward.

Paranoia About Photography

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

I don’t do a lot of linking to other sites (not that I really have enough posts to constitute a trend of any sort), but this seems worthwhile to me.  I’ve been puzzled for some time why the public, law enforcement, and the media have a fear of photographers.  If indeed terrorists were going to photograph their targets (which hasn’t happened, see the link below), why in the world would they bring a tripod, a fancy SLR, and lenses?  Wouldn’t a cameraphone work just as well, if not better?  Anyhow, give it a read, I just wish more of the right people would read and heed the sentiment:

Are photographers really a threat?

AIR’s Most Overused Feature

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

It constantly amazes me how many AIR apps have taken the time to make custom chrome that looks nearly like a normal window, except for the color, or a little shine.  I’ll admit I’ve been guilty of it too.  My first couple of air apps had fancy styled and skinned chrome too.  I was charmed by the fact that I could make it look however I want, the ultimate control I thought.  Then I sat down and started thinking about it more seriously. Color Browser Surprise.

Monday, February 25th, 2008

So, my Color Browser AIR application has been up on Adobe’s marketplace site for a while.  I’ve tried to keep it up to date, but I haven’t worried about it too much.  Then this morning when AIR went 1.0 my application managed to get featured on the download page!  So I quickly updated to 1.0 (I was still at Beta 3), and tried to fix a few things. My take-away from this:  Try not to ignore publicly available apps, and attention can come from unexpected places.

Sometimes Simple Is Best.

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

Well, the rest of my site redesign is coming along slowly, but I’d really like to start getting some ideas up here. So here comes my default WordPress install, quick and simple. Though I’ll be skinning this to match soon, at least there’s something in place in the meantime. Simple can be best, especially if it means it gets done rather than put off.
